Motor racing

Motor racing, in various forms, is a popular pastime in Victoria. Perhaps the best known event is the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. Held in March at Albert Park, a few kilometres south of the Melbourne CBD, it is the first event of the international season. The Albert Park track is a 5.3 km long street circuit around Albert Park Lake, with the area being transformed into a raceway for the big event.

For those who prefer their racing on two wheels there's the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island in October each year. The track is located right by the beach and camping is available on site for spectators. The Phillip Island circuit also hosts other events including the World Superbike Championship and the Australian Touring Car Championship.

Other motor racing and speedway tracks around Victoria, which allow spectators to watch race events, include:

	Alexandra Speedway	A dirt racing track located on the eastern side of Alexandra with an annual racing calendar that includes sprint cars and junior racing car championships
	Avalon Raceway	Located between Geelong and Werribee, the raceway hosts a busy calendar of events throughout the year including blue ribbon sprintcar race titles
	Blue Ribbon Raceway	Situated 18 kilometres north of Horsham, the raceway welcomes spectators to experience feature events and racing throughout the year culminating with a weekend carnival each June
	Calder Park Raceway	A major motor racing circuit situated in Melbourne's outer north-western suburbs and featuring a road circuit, drag strip and the purpose-built Thunderdome
	Heathcote Park Raceway	Located north-west of Heathcote, this raceway is acclaimed for its drag racing and regular motorsport events, welcoming spectators and participants
	Premier Speedway	One of Warrnambool's major sporting attractions, the Sungold Stadium at this speedway offers excellent facilities for competitors, spectators and officials with a calender of regular events including the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic
	Redline Speedway	Located south of Ballarat at Buninyong, attend one of the race meetings and see the racing cars in action
	Rosedale Speedway	A speedway of national standard, it hosts sprintcar races, V8 super sedans and mini sprints
	Sandown Motor Raceway	Located in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, the raceway was opened in 1962 and has a long history of hosting major motorsport events
	South Coast Raceway	Touted as the "best little drag strip in Oz", it is located within Yarraman Park on the southern outskirts of Portland, and it stages regular drag racing events
	Southern 500 Speedway	Located 10 kilometres north of Portland, the speedway hosts a regular calendar of racing events including caravan racing and demolition derbys
	State Motorcycle Sports Complex	Australia's only exclusive and comprehensive motorcycle circuit is located at Broadford and is open to the general public with competitions and events most weekends
	Timmis Speedway	Located 10 kilometres south-west of Mildura, this complex offers a racing calendar that includes events such as the super sedans family night, vintage heavy weight hot rods and AMCA national titles
	Wangaratta City Speedway	Local race track on outskirts of Wangaratta hosting a number of race meetings with compact speedcars, saloons, vintage vehicles and karts
	Western Speedway Hamilton	Hosting numerous speedway meetings each year that attract drivers from all over Australia, this complex provides motorsport entertainment for locals and visitors alike, located on the outskirts of Hamilton
	Winton Motor Raceway	A race circuit hosting a busy calendar of motorcycle, motor car and superkart racing events, situated just outside of Benalla at Winton
