| Five Oaks has three bathrooms and sleeps nine adults in seven beds plus cot dwellers. It is a four bedroom house in a high, quiet, light traffic area with sunrise over water and a bay or ocean view from every room. Magnificent views of Bass Strait, Seal Rocks, The Nobbies, Phillip Island and the entrance to Western Port. Easy access to Kennon Cove beach, picnic area, free electric public barbecues (cleaned daily) and pier (300 metres). Two minute drive to Flinders ocean surf beach. Five minute walk to Flinders village shops, hotel, cafes, restaurants, tennis courts, bowling club and public golf course. Flinders, until 50 years ago just a fishing village, is part of Australian history through the voyages and charting of Matthew Flinders and as the base station for the first undersea cable linking the mainland with Tasmania. The George Bass/Matthew Flinders memorial is just 100 metres from Five Oaks. Western Port is a safe, deep water harbour used extensively by pleasure craft, fishing boats and commercial shipping. It is also home to a large pod of Bottlenose dolphins. The Western Port pilot boat is moored at Flinders pier, also used by nearby Flinders Yacht Club and other craft. Walk or drive along Golf Links Road through the Golf Course (Bass Park) and pass the West Head Gunnery Range and the Pilot Station. Detour down the cliff road to the ocean beach and the Mushroom Reef Marine Sanctuary. Mushroom Reef breaks the ferocity of the ocean waves and provides a sandy beach with safe swimming for small children. There is much activity in the many rock pools. Back on Golf Links Road continue up the hill for magnificent views of the rugged ocean surf beach. Pass the hang glider launching platform and car park near the sixth green where radio controlled model aircraft are often to be seen. Complete the circle back into Flinders Village past public tennis courts, park and very well-equipped playground. The Mornington Peninsula, and Red Hill/Flinders in particular, is a renowned grape growing area. Many of the wineries have restaurants or tasting rooms attached. Boating, fishing, yachting and golf are other attractions. Five of Australia's best 30 golf courses are within 20 minutes drive from Flinders and Five Oaks customers get a 20% discount on Flinders Golf Club green fees. |
