Southern Star Observation Wheel, Docklands

Southern Star is Australia's largest observation wheel at 120 metres in height - equal to a 40 storey building. It is located at the Harbour Town Shopping Centre within the Waterfront City precinct at Docklands, and was first opened to the public in December 2008.

The observation wheel consists of 21 air-conditioned glass cabins which slowly move along the outer edge of the wheel as it turns during a 30 minute journey. Travellers enjoy stunning views of Melbourne, Docklands, across Port Phillip Bay and towards the Dandenong Ranges from the western side of the CBD.

Note that Southern Star is currently closed, but is expected to re-open during 2012.
