To help protect the fruit-growing regions in South Australia, northern Victoria and southern New South Wales, there is a fruit fly exclusion zone. See the map below.

When travelling, ensure that you don't carry fresh fruit and fruiting vegetables into the exclusion zone. If you do, on the spot fines apply. Road approaches to the zone are clearly signposted and fruit disposal bins are provided on major routes.

Important notes:

  • If any part of your journey will take you into the fruit fly exclusion zone, do not carry fresh fruit or vegetables with you

  • No fruit or vegetables of any type can be taken from Victoria and across the border into South Australia, including parts of the border that are not covered by the fruit fly exclusion zone

For more information, see the Tri-states Fruit Fly Program web site.
