Introduction:

Merrijig is a small town located almost half-way between Mansfield and the popular alpine ski resort of Mount Buller and the less developed Mount Stirling.

Merrijig's close proximity to Mount Buller makes it an alternative base for visitors who don't wish to stay at Buller's Alpine Village, but do want to cut down on longer trip between the larger town of Mansfield and the mountain. Although travellers are advised that there is no petrol available at Merrijig, Mount Buller or Mount Stirling, so either ensure you have plenty of supplies or fill up at Mansfield on your way through.

Merrijig is situated in the scenic Great Dividing Range, offering beautiful scenery. Areas to the north of town were chosen as filming locations for the 1982 movie The Man From Snowy River and its sequel 6 years later.

The Delatite River passes through the town centre and there are a number of scenic picnic areas along the river on its route between Mount Buller and Lake Eildon. The Hunt Club Hotel was established in Merrijig in 1873, and provides excellent meals at very reasonable prices.
