Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race

January. This bicycle race is inspired by the European spring classics and is named in honour of Cadel Evans - Australia's only Tour de France winner. Experience a weekend of fantastic cycling with elite one day separate races for men (174 kilometres) and women (113 kilometres) with spectacular coastal scenery around Barwon Heads, Torquay and Bells Beach as its backdrop. The race starts and ends in Geelong at the waterfront Steampacket Gardens. There is also a shorter series of people's rides open to the general public. Spectators are welcome at several designated viewing areas along the course with food stalls and big screens showing live coverage of the race.

March / April. The Rip Curl Pro is one of the legs of the World Surf League (WSL) World Tour - a series of events in which surfers compete to determine the annual world champion. The Rip Curl Pro has been running since 1973 and is the top pro surfing competition in Australia. It is held south of Torquay at Bells Beach, which is regarded as one of the best surf beaches in Australia.
