The Rutherglen wine region dates back to the 1850s with many of those wineries still in operation today. They produce complex, world-class wines including distinctive fortified wines. The magnificent King Valley wine region produces a vast selection of wine varieties. Some of these include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, (both sparkling and red wine), Rosado (rose), Sangiovese, Merlot, Semillon, Durif, Dolcino, Pinot Grigio, Barbera and Sangiovese. There are a pile of wineries to stop off at, providing wine tastings, cellar door sales, meals and accommodation. Make sure you allow a bit of time in your itinerary so you can sample them all.
